NVC with a Systemic Lens: How Far We’ve Come, Why it Matters, and What is Needed Now

Join this 5-week course with Sarri and Sophie of OpenEdge UK to look at how far we have come in the NVC community in bringing a systemic lens to NVC, and reminding ourselves why this matters so much. 

We will get clearer on why not proactively engaging with a systemic lens means we can be reproducing systemic violences and inequities, and will offer more tools, support and inspiration for bringing a systemic lens to individual experience. 

Course content and outcomes

• Reflection on where we think we are as a community, sharing our ‘systemic lens’ accomplishments and stuck points, celebrating and mourning together.

• A chance to learn more/new ideas together, and deepen and enhance our practices and spaces, such as
  • Apply NVC principles beyond individual experience to develop a systemic NVC practice
  • Develop a framing to understand the components of ‘a system’
  • Bring a systemic lens to ‘individual’ experiences
  • Deepen understandings of inequitable power in our systems and how to create ‘power with’ NVC
  • Understand Otherness and how Otherness happens
  • Learn how to engage with patterns of identity group impacts in NVC and the essential purpose of doing so.

• Harness the power of NVC to bring about social transformation;
  • NVC to reconnect to the living system we are part of
  • NVC to receive all life as a gift in a way that redresses inequities
  • Needs as a pathway to natural justice and right-relationship with life.

Who is it for?

This course is for you if…

• You have been committed to making NVC more systemically transformative and nonviolent and want to review or need support with how it’s going
• You are new to ‘NVC with a systemic lens’ and need more understanding on what this actually means
• You want to see how we can support each other more as a community to bring NVC into the world for systemic transformation
• You would like to deepen your understanding of how and why a systemic lens on NVC really matters, and what unwitting violence may be continuing when we do not have a systemic lens
• You have a sense that NVC without a lens of equity and justice cannot be fully NVC, and want to explore/understand more and know what to do
• You are interested in/are experimenting with NVC’s capacity to be co-liberatory
• You have a hunch that power issues are not outside of NVC practice and spaces and want to increase your understanding of how they relate and impact. In fact, you may often feel uneasy, for example, in spaces that offer NVC without acknowledging power dynamics, identity, difference and systemic issues.
