I’ve been thinking a lot about how we can meet each other even when someone is hurting – and about what it takes to stay in relationship when there is tension, difference or conflict.
I offer these practice groups because I think we have, culturally, lost much of what we need in order to go through conflict well. But I also believe that learning these capacities individually makes a difference. Perhaps, we can help rebuild a culture in which relationships can grow through conflict rather than stagnating or breaking through avoidance or aggression. Little by little.
Come and practise
Bring what you want to learn about.
What do you find hardest when there is tension with someone? Where do you get stuck? What would you like to do differently? Is there something you’d like to try out here before trying it in “real life”?
You can also come to deepen your understanding of conflict facilitation and explore how the capacities needed to accompany other people’s conflicts relate to the way we are in our own conflicts.
The sessions are largely experiential. We practise through role-plays, dialogues and conflict-circle processes, and then come back together to reflect, give feedback and distil what we are learning.
I’m particularly interested at the moment in differentiation: the capacity to stay with and remain curious about what is happening inside ourselves without immediately assigning meaning to what is happening outside of us. I increasingly see this as an important foundation for being able to stay in contact with ourselves and others when conflict arises.
I also offer one-to-one support if you’d like to explore this more personally:
I’m looking forward to practising together.
