What is ours to do next?

When the world feels more fractured than ever, how do we find the courage to bridge the divides? We start here—together.

I’m Kirstin, and for the fourth year running, it’s been my privilege to help organise the Annual Gathering for sharers of NVC. This event is dear to my heart because it offers us a chance to step back, take a meta-perspective, and ask, “What’s ours to do next?”

Finding answers together

I still remember the frustration, excitement and hope I felt last year when we were exploring what NVC in the UK needs to thrive and what’s currently blocking it from spreading further and deeper. The question of how to honour what others have done while boldly walking our own path is still present. And we can only find answers in connection.

Beacons of hope

At the Annual Gathering, old friends reconnect and new faces find allies. These are the essential connections we need to embolden us and give us courage to step out into the world with our unique gifts. I celebrate every person who joins us—because right now, the world feels like a “weird” place. Violence seems more prevalent than it was fifteen years ago, democracies wobble under polarisation, and honest conversation can feel like a stubborn dream. And so everyone who joins us in living the dream so many believe is impossible, is a beacon of hope.

Finding each others’ humanity

NVC has a unique gift for finding each other’s humanity to offer to the world—and right now, that gift is more needed than ever. Yet it can feel as though ears have grown harder to reach with the message of acceptance and the invitation to feel our feelings. In a world where emotions can become a misery drudge—because change feels impossible—repression and dissociation can seem like the only adaptive strategies.

Beyond theory

That’s why we need one another: to support each other in anger, despair, grief, and numbness so we don’t get stuck there. We know it’s possible to move beyond these seemingly insurmountable feelings, and that experiencing them is simply part of life. Let’s grapple together with what weighs on our hearts and through our shared practice, carry back this knowing not just as theory but as an embodied experience that lives in our cells—radiating hope and light in ways words alone never could.

We need more love. This is what we come for.
If this speaks to your heart, please join us in November.

What is your way of bringing more love and connection into the world?
